When I was young I thought that money was the most important thing in life; now that I am old I know that it is.
If American men are obsessed with money, American
women are obsessed with weight. The men talk of gain, the women talk of
loss, and I do not know which talk is the more boring.
When I was working at the Sprint store, I got laid
off. I was bummed out, but I stayed positive. I used the money I had
earned while working there to make my first album. Without that job,
maybe 'Corazon Sin Cara' would never had been made. It's a very
inspirational story.
Economics is all about consumption. People either
spend money now or they use financial instruments - like bonds, stocks
and savings accounts - so they can spend more later.
Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching.
I became alienated from this religious upbringing,
and started making music. I wanted to be a big star. All those things I
saw in the films and on the media took hold of me, and perhaps I thought
this was my god: the goal of making money.
No one's ever achieved financial fitness with a January resolution that's abandoned by February.
My mom worked at McDonald's, and she decided she
wanted to make more money, so she got into the management program at
McDonald's. And that's how you move up the chain. It's not by demanding
that minimum wage is raised; it's by actually acquiring the skills.
That's the way that people get ahead in life.
Money can't buy love, but it improves your bargaining position.
Starbucks is not an advertiser; people think we are a
great marketing company, but in fact we spend very little money on
marketing and more money on training our people than advertising.
I considered going into business or becoming a lawyer - not for the money, but for the thrill of problem-solving.
Motherhood is a great honor and privilege, yet it is
also synonymous with servanthood. Every day women are called upon to
selflessly meet the needs of their families. Whether they are awake at
night nursing a baby, spending their time and money on
less-than-grateful teenagers, or preparing meals, moms continuously put
others before themselves.
I think the American Dream used to be achieving
one's goals in your field of choice - and from that, all other things
would follow. Now, I think the dream has morphed into the pursuit of
money: Accumulate enough of it, and the rest will follow.
The field of ageing research is full of characters.
We have hucksters claiming that cures for ageing can be bought and sold;
prophetic seers, their hands extended for money, warning that
immortality is nigh; and would-be Nobelists working methodically in
laboratories in search of a pill to slow ageing.
To get rich, you have to be making money while you're asleep.
To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it.
Bank failures are caused by depositors who don't deposit enough money to cover losses due to mismanagement.
As a child, as far as I was concerned, my dad had an
amazing job, and we had all the money we needed. My life was so fun and
carefree that I didn't realize at all that we weren't rich - until I
met someone rich. Still, I've never met a rich kid who grew up as happy
as I did.
Money is a strange business. People who haven't got it aim it strongly. People who have are full of troubles.
I understand that government should live within its
means, value the money it holds in trust from you the taxpayer, avoid
waste and, above all else, observe the first maxim of good government:
namely, do no avoidable harm.
An athlete cannot run with money in his pockets. He must run with hope in his heart and dreams in his head.
People ask how can a Jewish kid from the Bronx do
preppy clothes? Does it have to do with class and money? It has to do
with dreams.
There are a handful of people whom money won't spoil, and we all count ourselves among them.
So you think that money is the root of all evil. Have you ever asked what is the root of all money?
To fulfill a dream, to be allowed to sweat over
lonely labor, to be given a chance to create, is the meat and potatoes
of life. The money is the gravy.
Elections are a competition with only one winner.
Giving more money to the opponent every time one speaks on behalf of a
favored candidate discourages the speech that triggers the matching
funds.
Nothing except the mint can make money without advertising.
Money changes all the iron rules into rubber bands.
Hip-hop don't have no fresh energy, none at all.
It's money driven, everybody tryin' to make that cheque, nobody putting
art in their albums any more.
Do the elected officials in Washington stand with
ordinary Americans - working families, children, the elderly, the poor -
or will the extraordinary power of billionaire campaign contributors
and Big Money prevail? The American people, by the millions, must send
Congress the answer to that question.
Normally I would not recommend a book that tells you
how to make money in the stock market. Most of these books are aimed at
gullible folk, and they usually make much more money for their authors
than they do for the investing public.
A common measure of poverty is how much money you
have in relation to other people - that is useful as far as it goes, but
that excludes the case of, say, a hunter in the rainforest who has no
money but is not poor. And there can be a number of people with money
but who can consider themselves unwanted or invisible or estranged from
society.
If advertisers spent the same amount of money on
improving their products as they do on advertising then they wouldn't
have to advertise them.
Encouragement to others is something everyone can
give. Somebody needs what you have to give. It may not be your money; it
may be your time. It may be your listening ear. It may be your arms to
encourage. It may be your smile to uplift. Who knows?
Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.
If a man works like a horse for his money, there are a lot of girls anxious to take him down the bridal path.
A fascist is one whose lust for money or power is
combined with such an intensity of intolerance toward those of other
races, parties, classes, religions, cultures, regions or nations as to
make him ruthless in his use of deceit or violence to attain his ends.
Small businesses provide 75 percent of new U.S. jobs
and are the backbone of our economy, and no outdated ban should be
keeping small business owners from collecting the same interest their
money could earn if it were held by an individual.
'Untitled' is a time machine that can transport you
to 1992, an edgy moment when the art world was crumbling, money was
scarce, and artists like Tiravanija were in the nascent stages of
combining Happenings, performance art, John Cage, Joseph Beuys, and the
do-it-yourself ethos of punk. Meanwhile, a new art world was coming into
being.
What's money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.
We need business to understand its social
responsibility, that the main task and objective for a business is not
to generate extra income and to become rich and transfer the money
abroad, but to look and evaluate what a businessman has done for the
country, for the people, on whose account he or she has become so rich.
Making money is certainly the one addiction I cannot shake.
France is the country where the money falls apart and you can't tear the toilet paper.
Money and corruption are ruining the land, crooked
politicians betray the working man, pocketing the profits and treating
us like sheep, and we're tired of hearing promises that we know they'll
never keep.
You are your greatest asset. Put your time, effort and money into training, grooming, and encouraging your greatest asset.
Cash - in savings accounts, short-term CDs or money
market deposits - is great for an emergency fund. But to fulfill a
long-term investment goal like funding your retirement, consider buying
stocks. The more distant your financial target, the longer inflation
will gnaw at the purchasing power of your money.
The reason laziness is rarely pushed as a lifestyle
option is down to one simple reason: money. There are fortunes to be
made out of active lifestyles. Gyms charge fees. But no one is going to
make money out of sleep. It is free.
Money is not a motivating factor. Money doesn't
thrill me or make me play better because there are benefits to being
wealthy. I'm just happy with a ball at my feet. My motivation comes from
playing the game I love. If I wasn't paid to be a professional
footballer I would willingly play for nothing.
The main thing in measuring integrity is someone's
motive and intent, not how many records they sell. Our intent in
Ministry was never to be big. We just wanted to make enough money to
live and to buy a studio, which we have done in Austin.
The times of Arab nationalism and unity are gone
forever. These ideas which mobilized the masses are only a worthless
currency. Libya has had to put up with too much from the Arabs for whom
it has poured forth both blood and money.
I just like being on my own on trains, traveling. I
spent all my pocket money travelling the London Underground and Southern
Railway, what used to be the Western region, and in Europe as much as I
could afford it. My parents used to think I was going places, but I
wasn't, I was just travelling the trains.
Never spend your money before you have earned it.
I never attempt to make money on the stock market. I
buy on the assumption that they could close the market the next day and
not reopen it for five years.
Life can be lived at a remove. You trade in futures,
and then you trade in derivatives of futures. Banks make more money
trading derivatives than they do trading actual commodities.
Banks were once places to hold money and were very
careful in lending to finance families as they built a future - bought
homes, bought cars, took out student loans.
When I sent those scripts, that was the lowest point
of my life. We'd just had our second son, and when I went to collect
them from hospital, I went to the bank to try and get some money to buy
some diapers, the screen showed I've got $26 left.
Money is human happiness in the abstract; he, then,
who is no longer capable of enjoying human happiness in the concrete
devotes himself utterly to money.
At its core, bitcoin is a smart currency designed by
very forward-thinking engineers. It eliminates the need for banks, gets
rid of credit card fees, currency exchange fees, money transfer fees,
and reduces the need for lawyers in transitions... all good things.
My body is my art, and it's also the tool that I use to make money.
The Internet is all about accessing entertainment.
Realistically, 50 to 80 percent of all traffic is people downloading
stuff for free. If you can turn that huge market share into something
that you can monetize, even if it is just with ads, you will end up
making more money than with all other revenue streams combined.
Majorities, as such, afford no guarantees for
justice. They are men of the same nature as minorities. They have the
same passions for fame, power, and money, as minorities; and are liable
and likely to be equally - perhaps more than equally, because more
boldly - rapacious, tyrannical and unprincipled, if intrusted with
power.
Companies should not have a singular view of
profitability. There needs to be a balance between commerce and social
responsibility... The companies that are authentic about it will wind up
as the companies that make more money.
Could a government dare to set out with happiness as
its goal? Now that there are accepted scientific proofs, it would be
easy to audit the progress of national happiness annually, just as we
monitor money and GDP.
There was one thing my daddy wouldn't tolerate in
any shape, form or fashion, and that was being unkind or rude to
somebody. That was just very important to my folks. And as it turns out,
that was a legacy that he left me that money can't buy, is how to be
able to treat people.
I know exactly what my values are and what I love to
do. That's worth additional years right there. I say no to a lot of
stuff that would be easy money but deviates from my meaning of life.
There is a legitimate concern about wealth
distribution in the United States, but the answer is not to scapegoat
any individual who makes over $200,000 per year and to try to sell the
fraud that the government can equitably take the money of those who have
earned it and give it to those who haven't.
The thing that differentiates man from animals is money.
A real gentleman, even if he loses everything he
owns, must show no emotion. Money must be so far beneath a gentleman
that it is hardly worth troubling about.
My favorite things in life don't cost any money. It's really clear that the most precious resource we all have is time.
Allah says in the Qur'an not to despise one another.
So the criterion in Islam is not color or social status. It's who is
most righteous. If I go to a mosque - and I'm a basketball player with
money and prestige - if I go to a mosque and see an imam, I feel
inferior. He's better than me. It's about knowledge.
We developed microfinance to fight loan sharks - I
was telling people don't go to loan sharks - not trying to take
advantage and make money for myself. I would be a junior loan shark if I
did... It is not a panacea.
As human beings, we're very materialistic and have all this stuff - furs and cars and diamonds and money.
There is no virtue in compulsory government charity,
and there is no virtue in advocating it. A politician who portrays
himself as 'caring' and 'sensitive' because he wants to expand the
government's charitable programs is merely saying that he's willing to
try to do good with other people's money.
Bottom line is, I didn't return to Apple to make a
fortune. I've been very lucky in my life and already have one. When I
was 25, my net worth was $100 million or so. I decided then that I
wasn't going to let it ruin my life. There's no way you could ever spend
it all, and I don't view wealth as something that validates my
intelligence.
Money motivates neither the best people, nor the
best in people. It can move the body and influence the mind, but it
cannot touch the heart or move the spirit; that is reserved for belief,
principle, and morality.
Major labels didn't start showing up really until
they smelled money, and that's all they're ever going to be attracted to
is money-that's the business they're in- making money.
There are a lot of people with a lot of money, and I'm amazed they don't understand what a great pleasure it can be to give.
If you don't like the idea that most of the money
spent on lottery tickets supports government programs, you should know
that most of the earnings from mutual funds support investment advisors'
and mutual fund managers' retirement.
Nobody had a credit card when I was a kid. No one
had credit card debt. But these big companies and banks wanted to know
how to get more money out of people - get them charging things.
Thirteen thousand dollars a year is not enough to
raise a family. That's not enough to pay your bills and save for their
future. That's barely enough to provide for even the most basic needs.
In my view, a corporation is not a person. A
corporation does not have First Amendment rights to spend as much money
as it wants, without disclosure, on a political campaign.
Much ingenuity with a little money is vastly more profitable and amusing than much money without ingenuity.
The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.
My nephew has type 1 diabetes, and it's my goal and
hope that in his lifetime there will be a cure for diabetes. There's no
place better to give the money to than the Juvenile Diabetes
Association.
People say money ain't nothing; money is basically everything.
I know what it means to do a job... I worked in a
factory. I respect people in the service industry. What irritates me
more is when people aren't respectful. There's a lot of nonsense
behavior, especially in a place like Hollywood. The money, the power,
they create little monsters.
Money doesn't mean anything to me. I've made a lot
of money, but I want to enjoy life and not stress myself building my
bank account. I give lots away and live simply, mostly out of a suitcase
in hotels. We all know that good health is much more important.
In liberal logic, if life is unfair then the answer
is to turn more tax money over to politicians, to spend in ways that
will increase their chances of getting reelected.
Soon we saw that money going to women brought much
more benefit to the family than money going to the men. So we changed
our policy and gave a high priority to women. As a result, now 96% of
our four million borrowers in Grameen Bank are women.
I went to the bank and asked to borrow a cup of money. They said, 'What for?' I said, 'I'm going to buy some sugar.'
Arab leaders worry more about making money from the
profits they get from oil and gas that they turn the other way when
Lebanon is being destroyed right next to them. Their neighbours are
being murdered, but they only make calculations for their own benefit.
Some people find an interest in making money, and
though they appear to be slaving, many actually enjoy every minute of
their work.
I love art dealers. In some ways, they're my
favorite people in the art world. Really. I love that they put their
money where their taste is, create their own aesthetic universes,
support artists, employ people, and do all of this while letting us see
art for free. Many are visionaries.
Money is my military, each dollar a soldier. I never
send my money into battle unprepared and undefended. I send it to
conquer and take currency prisoner and bring it back to me.
Conservatives should insist that defense spending be
examined with the same seriousness that we demand in examining the
books of those government agencies that spend taxpayer money in the name
of welfare, the environment, or education.
Success comes to those who dedicate everything to
their passion in life. To be successful, it is also very important to be
humble and never let fame or money travel to your head.
Teamwork is so important that it is virtually
impossible for you to reach the heights of your capabilities or make the
money that you want without becoming very good at it.
You make your first album, you make some money, and
you feel like you still have to show face, like 'I still go to the
projects.' I'm like, why? Your job is to inspire people from your
neighborhood to get out. You grew up there. What makes you think it's so
cool?
The old process of social assimilation used to be
mainly about English new money - generated in London, the mucky, brassy
North or the colonies - buying those houses and restoring them, and
doing the three-generation thing, mouldering into the landscape, and the
'community,' identifying with the place in a familiar way.
The reason we have poverty is that we have no
imagination. There are a great many people accumulating what they think
is vast wealth, but it's only money... they don't know how to enjoy it,
because they have no imagination.
I would argue that's because we had a bunch of smart
people running around here. They were coming in and working very hard
and many of them had left jobs in which they made significantly more
money.
Advertising is totally unnecessary. Unless you hope to make money.
We don't need new taxes. We need new taxpayers,
people that are gainfully employed, making money and paying into the tax
system. And then we need a government that has the discipline to take
that additional revenue and use it to pay down the debt and never grow
it again.
I feel my personality is richer than my bank
account. So if I meet a girl, maybe first she just likes me because I'm
rich. But then she's gonna get to know me and say, 'Screw the money.'
I would borrow money all day long, if the cost of borrowing is less than the expected return.
In Britain, the idea one could go from blue-collar
beginnings to the university was so far out, it was quite unthinkable. I
took a variety of jobs to pay for tuition - from ice-cream salesman to
night-club bouncer. Whatever earned the most money in the least time.
The president has been a true friend of the ag
industry, because he continues to invest large amounts of money at a
time when savings is really the goal of the federal government to deal
with the deficit.
In 1988, as an unknown candidate, totally unknown, I
won Iowa, came in second in New Hampshire, won South Dakota. I was
ahead in every Super Tuesday state the day after South Dakota. The only
problem was I didn't have enough money. I had a million dollars left,
and Al Gore had three and Michael Dukakis had three and it was lights
out.
When money and hype recede from the art world, one
thing I won't miss will be what curator Francesco Bonami calls the
'Eventocracy.' All this flashy 'art-fair art' and those highly produced
space-eating spectacles and installations wow you for a minute until you
move on to the next adrenaline event.
As an actor, to have achieved financial stability is
amazing. But I always have this weird fear that I'm not going to get
any more work; it's about not having enough money.
What are you going to do if you have all the money
in the world and all the things that you wanted to achieve in your
business and you have no one to share it with? You come home alone at
the end of the day. And then what?
A guy's who has all the money he needs and never
faced any hard times, he won't have any character. But when you've had
it tough and you've had it rough and you thought you were at the end of
the rope and you work your way out of it, that's the way you build
character.
Divorce is expensive. I used to joke they were going
to call it 'all the money,' but they changed it to 'alimony.' It's
ripping your heart out through your wallet.
If you wait to see how much money you have left at
the end of the month to put toward savings, the answer may be zero. So,
set up an automated monthly transfer from your checking to savings
account. Once you lock into that commitment, you'll be forced to scale
back spending to make ends meet.
Getting a family into work, supporting strong
relationships, getting parents off drugs and out of debt - all this can
do more for a child's well-being than any amount of money in out-of-work
benefits.
I don't want to waste anyone's time or money. I want to give people some truth and positive heart lift.
You can make more money on unemployment than you can
going down and getting one of those jobs that is an honest job, but it
doesn't pay as much. And so, that's what's happened to us is that we
have put in so much entitlement into our government, that we really have
spoiled our citizenry and said you don't want the jobs that are
available.
Trying to take money out of politics is like trying to take jumping out of basketball.
Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is, I don't know which half.
Money and success don't change people; they merely amplify what is already there.
Banks have a new image. Now you have 'a friend,'
your friendly banker. If the banks are so friendly, how come they chain
down the pens?
Once I'm at the arena with the guys in the dressing
room, and in the bus, and on the plane, I'm a player. And I sit in the
back with the players and I play cards and try to take their money.
A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it.
Crafts make us feel rooted, give us a sense of
belonging and connect us with our history. Our ancestors used to create
these crafts out of necessity, and now we do them for fun, to make money
and to express ourselves.
If you think advantage lies in resources, then you think the best educational system is the one that spends the most money.
Every family should have the right to spend their
money, after tax, as they wish, and not as the government dictates. Let
us extend choice, extend the will to choose and the chance to choose.
Disasters happen. We still have no way to eliminate
earthquakes, wildfires, hurricanes, floods or droughts. We cope as best
we can by fortifying ourselves against danger with building codes and
levees, and by setting aside money to clean up afterwards.
Love him or hate him, Trump is a man who is certain
about what he wants and sets out to get it, no holds barred. Women find
his power almost as much of a turn-on as his money.
Among the weeds choking out growth and good
government are the hundreds of boards, commissions, and advisory
committees that have sprouted over the years. They devour time, money,
and energy far beyond any real contribution they make.
We have over 500,000 illegal immigrants living in
Arizona. And we simply cannot sustain it. It costs us a tremendous
amount of money of course in health care, in education, and then, on top
of it all, in incarceration. And the federal government doesn't
reimburse us on any of these things.
Inequality makes everyone unhappy, the poor most of
all, and that is well within the remit of the state. More money gives
less extra happiness the richer we get, yet we are addicted to earning
and spending more every year.
Let advertisers spend the same amount of money
improving their product that they do on advertising and they wouldn't
have to advertise it.
In this financial year we will be spending at least
$1.5 billion on foreign aid and we cannot be sure that this money will
be properly spent, as corruption and mismanagement in many of the
recipient countries are legend.
I have always put my own money into Tails of Joy.
For years, every time a dog walked by, my husband would say, 'There goes
our beach house.'
People assume I'm out there having this great life,
but money doesn't erase the pain. When you're young you barrel through
life, making choices without thinking of repercussions. A few years down
the line, you wake up in a certain place and wonder how the hell you
got there.
But if you want to continue to be slaves of the
banks and pay the cost of your own slavery, then let bankers continue to
create money and control credit.
I am a regular, if not exactly enthusiastic, patron
of my local bookshop. I try to buy at least some books there because I
cling to the belief that it's important to maintain those businesses
which put a human face on the exchange of money for goods and services.
Acting never was about the money for me... Maybe in
10 years, I'll be able to appreciate the fact that I am financially
stable and independent and I don't have to make bad choices. I can be
very picky.
All my money is in a savings account. My dad has explained the stock market to me maybe 75 times. I still don't understand it.
It will be a great day when our schools have all the money they need, and our air force has to have a bake-sale to buy a bomber.
People don't have time to wait for somebody to paint their portraits anymore. The money is in photography.
It's really unfair to working women in America who
read celebrity news and think, 'Why can't I lose weight when I've had a
baby?' Well, everyone you're reading about has money for a trainer and a
chef. That doesn't make it realistic.
Everything in my life boils down to my mother. A
tradition, which a lot of people do not know of, is that while I'd give
my father the money I earned, anything that was special to me - like an
award or an album - would be given to my mother.
I put my money in the bank: I have to think of life after modeling, when I'm not famous any more.
Let us face it: in the world today, money and
economic strength remain more powerful arguments than the number of
people you represent.
Advertising is the art of convincing people to spend money they don't have for something they don't need.
Friends and acquaintances are the surest passport to fortune.
During the Depression, my dad made radios to sell to
make extra money. Nobody had any money to buy the radios, so he would
trade them for dogs. He built kennels in the backyard, and he cared for
the dogs.
Athletes and musicians make astronomical amounts of
money. People get paid $100 million to throw a baseball! Shouldn't we
all take less and pass some of that money onto others? Think about
firefighters, teachers and policemen. We should celebrate people that
are intellectually smart and trying to make this world a better place.
The big advantage that we have as a venture capital
firm over a hedge fund or a mutual fund is we have a 13-year lockup on
our money. And so enterprise can go in and out of fashion four different
times, and we can go and invest in one of these companies, and it's
okay, because we can stay the course.
I live making comics. Comics is an industrial art
but less suffering, because comics are for young people who are more
adventurous. I do that. I live off comics, and then I write books, but
when you want movies, you cannot make movies without money.
Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.
As ye sow, so shall ye reap. When a ballet company
spends a lot of money on gimmicky pieces, it's stuck with them for a
while - they have to earn their keep.
After a point of time, when you get success and
fame, money and everything, the purpose of life has to be redefined. For
me, I think that purpose is to build bridges. Artists can do that very
easily, more than politicians.
Markets are constantly in a state of uncertainty and
flux and money is made by discounting the obvious and betting on the
unexpected.
As an artist, you want to make good stories and
create good art; as a businessman, you want to make money and make sure
the investors are happy. The two will always clash, unfortunately.
I think it is immensely difficult to get the U.S.
interested in non-U.S. topics. I don't think this is because the average
American reader is disinterested, but more because of publishers
playing it safe: if a thriller based in L.A. is a sure winner, why spend
money plugging one based in Paris - or Bangkok?
My mindset is of the person who is still unsure
whether they have enough money in their ATM to go to another bar. I
lived that way when I was unemployed, when I was a snowboard instructor,
and when I was at NYU. A lot of my personality is stuck in those five
years, and I don't know if that's ever gonna change.
Money can add very much to one's ability to lead a
constructive life, not only pleasant for oneself, but, hopefully,
beneficial to others.
The only problem I have with American money is that
it's all kind of the same color, so I'm always having to look. Whereas
with Australian money, you have purple, blue, yellow... We keep it nice
and simple.
Art is for anyone. It just isn't for everyone.
Still, over the past decade, its audience has hugely grown, and that's
irked those outside the art world, who get irritated at things like
incomprehensibility or money.
I need them, need them to give me a kick up the
arse. Otherwise I'd just be sat-in getting fat, counting me money. It's
good people living on your doorstep and looking through your bins. Gives
you energy.
The Congo is very wealthy from oil money but is not
paying its debts and at the same time is applying for special status at
the World Bank. That's shocking and disingenuous.
You may not like the idea of putting money into a
home when you're moving out. But it's demanded by the market. You need
to show it off. You don't have to rip out the kitchen and bathroom. But
maybe replace the tiles or the countertops. Get professional advice.
For a successful entrepreneur it can mean extreme
wealth. But with extreme wealth comes extreme responsibility. And the
responsibility for me is to invest in creating new businesses, create
jobs, employ people, and to put money aside to tackle issues where we
can make a difference.
My mom was a single mother, raising my sister and
me. My mom has an incredible talent for living in the world without
traditional structure, and her friend, who was in advertising, put me in
a commercial when I was five. It was just to make money.
John D. Rockefeller apparently became more of a
tightwad the richer he got. I don't know if it is true, but one story I
read was about one of his sons having to wear his older sister's clothes
in order to save money.
In these times of the 'Great Recession', we
shouldn't be trying to shift the benefits of wealth behind some curtain.
We should be celebrating and encouraging people to make as much money
as they can. Profits equal tax money. While some people might find it
distasteful to pay taxes, I don't. I find it patriotic.
Money differs from an automobile or mistress in being equally important to those who have it and those who do not.
I had no idea that I would ever get involved with
something like lending money to poor people, given the circumstances in
which I was working in Bangladesh.
I don't buy these rag magazines that feed off of
stolen, you know, press. They're basically stealing someone's image in
order to make money for themselves... They wait at the end of my street
in their cars. Every time I exit my home, I have company.
Don't stay in bed, unless you can make money in bed.
I don't understand the whole dating thing. I know
right off the bat if I'm interested in someone, and I don't want them to
waste their money on me and take me out to eat if I know I'm not
interested in that person.
If the first requisite for writing well about food
is a good appetite, the second is to put in your apprenticeship as a
feeder when you have enough money to pay the check but not enough to
produce indifference of the total.
For the women in California, they're just
downtrodden because they're so gorgeous here. Every hot cheerleader
comes to California to make it. The men don't want to get married,
they're lazy lions. Matthew McConaughey is their poster boy so they can
procreate and live on the beach in the trailer and have kids and have
money and be hedonistic.
The fallacy of monetary policy in the U.S. is to
believe this money will go to the man on the street. It won't. It goes
to the Mayfair economy of the well-to-do people and boosts asset prices
of Warhols... Very happy. Very good for the Fed. Congratulations, Mr.
Bernanke.
False riches, consisting of money, houses and lands,
acquired by selfish means at cost to others and thereafter used
selfishly, are almost always used for the oppression of other persons.
Character is greater than talent, genius, fame,
money, friends - there is nothing to compare with it. A man may have all
these and yet remain comparatively useless - be unhappy - and die a
bankrupt in soul.
My father thought sport was something fun - he
didn't know it was a way to make money. Then I won a Mercedes at the
world championships and I gave it to him. From the moment it arrived my
father said: 'Good, you can support not just yourself but me too'.
A man with money is no match against a man on a mission.
Offer someone the opportunity to rebuild a company
or reinvent an industry as the primary incentive, and it will attract
those drawn to the challenge first and the money second.
The secret of my success is that I make other people
money. And, never ever, ever, ever be ashamed about trying to earn as
much as possible for yourself, if the person you're working with is also
making money. That's life!
Raising the minimum wage to $10.10 will benefit
about 28 million workers across the country. And it will help
businesses, too - raising the wage will put more money in people's
pockets, which they will pump back into the economy by spending it on
goods and services in their communities.
Anime has been good to me. I made and continue to
make very little money at it, but the undying, feverish loyalty of the
fans of the genre has been such a life-changing influence for me that I
wanted to do everything I possibly could to help give something back to
them.
People in the film industry always want to save for a
rainy day. Many early actors died in small houses with no money, and so
they are insecure. My advantage is I don't value money that much. It's
an easy thing for me to let go.
Labour was the first price, the original purchase -
money that was paid for all things. It was not by gold or by silver, but
by labour, that all wealth of the world was originally purchased.
I love the energy of an independent film set. No one
is there for the money. Everyone is there 'cause they really want to be
there. It makes all the difference in the world. It's without ego and
agenda, other than just wanting to fulfill a creative dream.
If anything, the children of Paris should be giving
me even more money for having the privilege of being in the same city as
my incredible quality. And so should David Beckham. Call it a
Zlaritable donation.
I have a real passion for driving. Earlier on in my
life I wanted to be a race car driver. But I don't pay an extortionate
amount of money for cars. I'm pretty frugal.
The best money advice ever given me was from my
father. When I was a little girl, he told me, 'Don't spend anything
unless you have to.'
Equity is the cushion that protects financial
institutions from unexpected changes in the value of their assets. The
greater the leverage, the smaller the losses required to wipe out a
company's equity, leaving it without enough money to repay the people
who hold its debt.
When McGwire started the home run mania, attendance
came back. The owners understood that the sudden spike in homers wasn't
accidental. All baseball knew it. But baseball is run on money, and home
runs meant money. Baseball turned a blind eye.
I always thought money was something just to make me
happy. But I've learned that I feel better being able to help my folks,
'cause we never had nothing. So just to see them excited about my
career is more of a blessing than me actually having it for myself.
Companies spend millions of dollars on firewalls,
encryption, and secure access devices and it's money wasted because none
of these measures address the weakest link in the security chain: the
people who use, administer, operate and account for computer systems
that contain protected information.
I used to be really anxious about money. I got that from my parents. I still am, but for entirely different reasons.
Advertising: the science of arresting the human intelligence long enough to get money from it.
What's weird is the Hot Boys and the whole New
Orleans Cash Money thing had a really big impact on the Bay when that
was popping off. I don't all the way understand it. I mean, I know that
they were big everywhere and had a lot of commercial success in the mid
to late '90s, but they were really, really felt in the Bay Area.
I spent 50 years in the NBA. Can you imagine doing
something that you love the most in the entire world and doing it for
your entire life and, besides that, getting a pile of money for it? It's
unbelievable. I'm the luckiest guy in the world. And I know it.
I basically left Texas with no money. I was making
$3.50 working in some mall, so I didn't have a lot of cash. I took
$1,000 and headed to California. Along the way I stopped in Vegas
because I had always wanted to see Caesar's Palace. So I stopped there
and won $2,500 on a slot machine! It was amazing.
The circulation of confidence is better than the circulation of money.
I grew up skateboarding; it was fun. I didn't think
about money, I didn't know how much professional skateboarders made. I
just knew that if I became a professional skateboarder, I would achieve a
lot and get to travel and do these great things.
Whoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and commerce.
It is up to the public to stop attending these
theatrical, and aquatic shows, and circuses with wild animals. The
rhetoric about how the animals are happy and well cared for are lies.
Don't be swayed by them. The money behind these shows is huge; there is
nothing good about them.
We continue to subsidize highways and aviation, but
when it comes to our passenger rail system, we refuse to provide the
money Amtrak needs to survive.
It almost goes without saying that when you are a
startup, one of the first things you do is you start setting aside money
to defend yourself from patent lawsuits, because any successful
company, even moderately successful, is going to get hit by a patent
lawsuit from someone who's just trying to look for a payout.
When I was growing up in Monrovia, the capital of
Liberia, I sold doughnuts, popcorn and Kool Aid every day after school
so that my family had some money and I could pay my school fees. It was a
tough life.
With the amount of money I have, it's difficult raising children the way I was raised.
Where large sums of money are concerned, it is advisable to trust nobody.
I know how to create and make people feel something.
Honestly, if I didn't do this, I would just have some minimum-wage job
in New Mexico, and I would go out on the weekends and make just enough
money to pay my insurance and pay for a couple beers, and that would be
it.
Nothing is worse, or more of a breach of the social
contract between citizen and state, than for government officials,
bureaucrats and agencies to waste the money entrusted to them by the
people they serve.
The American people need to know that money is being
used effectively because frankly, the nation can't afford careless
spending, no matter how well-intentioned.
Money doesn't buy elegance. You can take an
inexpensive sheath, add a pretty scarf, gray shoes, and a wonderful bag,
and it will always be elegant.
Nigerian politics has been, since the military
dictatorships, largely non-ideological. Rather than a battle of ideas,
it is about who can pump in the most money and buy the most access.
I've always thought stability was suffocating and
deadly. Like, when I read that the kids I went to law school with have
stayed at the same firm, I feel like I'm reading an obituary. How much
money do you need? Six million, seven million? Put that in the bank and
do something else. Get out!
I've been going long enough to prove what I wanted
to prove, to get the girl I wanted to get, to make the money I wanted to
make, to drink all the beer I wanted to drink. I've played - not
exactly everywhere, but I've played enough places.
I could never fall in love just for money. I like my
co-stars, and they are a bunch of good-looking men. But I've dated an
actor. My dream man has to be a lot more than just good looking and
rich!
The thing that surprised me the most is just how
much money women that weren't rich were paying for their hair. When
you're in a beauty parlor in Harlem next to abandoned buildings and
somebody's paying five grand for a weave, that's a bit much.
There's a good argument to be made that companies
that are private, where they're run by partnerships, where everybody has
true stake in them and they're not playing with other people's money,
that by default it's a safer system, because you really have skin in the
game. You really own the company.
To this day, I am the least materialistic person I
know, because my father didn't raise me to just go out and buy this or
that car. The only reason I wanted to make money as an actor was because
I'm passionate about food!
We as artists are actively encouraged - by other
authors, your agent, publisher, and society - not to think about money,
strategy, how to manage your career, how to create a brand, because
we're supposed to focus on the art.
If you are worried about job security and do not
have an adequate emergency fund (ideally eight months' worth of living
expenses stashed away in a federally insured bank or credit union), you
need to focus more on saving money than paying down the balance on your
credit cards.
Anybody who thinks money will make you happy, hasn't got money.
I generally encourage people to make good on debts
when they have enough money to repay them. But once a delinquency has
been reported to a collection agency, paying it off won't help your FICO
score. The damage has already been done, and the blemish will remain on
your credit report for seven years.
Is puppy love the reason so many Americans are blind
to the incompetence and waste of Republicans - who at a minimum are
supposed to be good money managers - running Iraq reconstruction?
To avoid ignorance and bullying, I've had to hide
the fact that I'm a troll. You have no idea how much time and money I've
spent on electrolysis and hair dye and reconstructive surgery so I can
look like this.
I want to go to - what's that hot country with a lot of money? - Dubai.
Social enables word of mouth at an unprecedented
scale. Its most powerful effect, through reviews and recommendations, is
to put product quality and value for money as the key to success in
commerce. Social brings a level of transparency that prevents marketers
from advertising their way to success without underlying product
quality.
If money was my only motivation, I would organize myself differently.
If you pay a child a dollar to read a book, as some
schools have tried, you not only create an expectation that reading
makes you money, you also run the risk of depriving the child for ever
of the value of it. Markets are not innocent.
The political system is not for the people. The
people are secondary to the economy. It's about what generates money,
not about what benefits the people.
All I'm trying to do is manage money and take care of my shareholders.
Because A Walk To Remember had come out and it had
made money and I got a lot of congratulations at that time as it happens
out there.
Let us wage a moral and political war against war
itself, so that we can cut military spending and use that money for
human needs.
At an independent label, you have to figure out inventive ways to promote without spending the money.
I believe my business and non-profit investments are
much more beneficial to societal well-being than sending more money to
Washington.
If time is money, it seems moral to save time, above
all one's own, and such parsimony is excused by consideration for
others. One is straight-forward.
It's amazing to me how many people think that voting
to have the government give poor people money is compassion. Helping
poor and suffering people yourself is compassion. Voting for our
government to use guns to give money to help poor and suffering people
is immoral, self-righteous, bullying laziness.
Because of piracy there has been a massive downturn
in people buying music, which makes it more difficult for artists to
make money from the sale of records.
I think one of the most pervasive evils in this
world is greed and acquiring money for money's sake. Once you have six
houses and a plane, it's just about a number. It's never been anything I
understood.
A lot of times when people become successful, people
don't really understand what they had to do or the sacrifices they made
to do that, or they assume that they had money. This is coming from,
like, a kid who was broke and lived with roaches and a single mom in
Dorchester.
Want of money and the distress of a thief can never
be alleged as the cause of his thieving, for many honest people endure
greater hardships with fortitude. We must therefore seek the cause
elsewhere than in want of money, for that is the miser's passion, not
the thief s.
It's a kind of spiritual snobbery that makes people think they can be happy without money.
If you look hard at it, if you look hard at the
bleeding heart attitude to always throw money at issues, throw money at
problems, what you're in fact probably saying is you're exercising a
prejudicism of low expectations.
If I have enough money to eat I'm good.
The difference now is that the paparazzi get paid
fortunes. That's what motivates people; it's about the money, sadly, at
anyone's expense.
You can spend the money on new housing for poor
people and the homeless, or you can spend it on a football stadium or a
golf course.
If you don't have integrity, you have nothing. You
can't buy it. You can have all the money in the world, but if you are
not a moral and ethical person, you really have nothing.
Money is the outcome of my work and is incidental.
Sooner or later, we sell out for money.
Make sure to save for the future and keep making money!
You know, a lot of people are just interested in, in building a company so they can make money and get out.
I don't want to be in a position where I'm playing
roles I'm comfortable with and making money, but doing it without
feeling like I'm growing.
When you have a country that can boast that more
than 95 percent of its eligible workforce is employed and pumping money
back into economy, that's exceptionally good news, especially as we
prepare to observe Labor Day.
A trillion here, a trillion there and pretty soon you're talking about real money.
One of the things we did at PayPal was collaborative
filtering and machine learning: looking at patterns of human behavior.
We used it there to predict when people would try to cheat the system to
get money. But you can predict pretty much any behavior with a certain
amount of accuracy.
A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man.
For the good producer, raising capital is about the last thing to worry about. If you're good, the money comes very easily.
But the war on terror as I have repeatedly said in
the past, and the Afghan people believe in it, in truth, is that the war
on terror is not in the Afghan villages or homes. Its in the
sanctuaries, it is in the training grounds, its in the motivation
factors and the money that comes to it.
By pouring money and goods into devastated regions,
foreign aid workers sometimes compound the disruption and debauch the
survivors.
All over London as one walks, one everywhere, in the
season, sees oranges to sell; and they are in general sold tolerably
cheap, one and even sometimes two for a halfpenny; or, in our money,
threepence.
You have reached the pinnacle of success as soon as you become uninterested in money, compliments, or publicity.
I kept my clothes on. I borrowed money.
It's impossible to change the social without
changing the personal - you have to put your money where your mouth is.
And if you're not making those challenges at home, it's unlikely you'll
make them in a larger setting.
Successful people make money. It's not that people
who make money become successful, but that successful people attract
money. They bring success to what they do.
In any investment, you expect to have fun and make money.
I don't really think about my future. I don't really worry about anything. I just try not to spend all my money.
A fool and his money are soon parted.
To become a doctor, you spend so much time in the
tunnels of preparation - head down, trying not to screw up, trying to
make it from one day to the next - that it is a shock to find yourself
at the other end, with someone shaking your hand and asking how much
money you want to make.
There will be statues of Bill Gates across the Third
World. There's a reasonable shot that - because of his money - we will
cure malaria.
Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.
If you care about yourself and what you do, you get nervous about it. You just don't take the money and go home.
Good grooming is integral and impeccable style is a
must. If you don't look the part, no one will want to give you time or
money.
A rich man is nothing but a poor man with money.
The companies that survive longest are the one's
that work out what they uniquely can give to the world not just growth
or money but their excellence, their respect for others, or their
ability to make people happy. Some call those things a soul.
Making money is easy. It is. The difficult thing in life is not making it, it's keeping it.
You gotta remember: we're musicians... we're just
crazy people who can't get along sometimes. I've definitely come to the
table with my knife in my pocket a couple of times; you know how it is.
It's part of being human. Now add fame and money and all that rock and
roll craziness to it - we're lucky we don't eat each other in this
industry!
If any man, out of an humour, should turn all his
Estate into Money, and keep it dead, he would soon be sensible of
Poverty growing upon him, whilst he is eating out of the quick stock.
Money has to be put in the way a club feels it
should. If you put money in a new ballpark, that helps to generate
revenue so you can spend more money. It should be spent to make the
club's operations the best. That will help in the end, and it will mean
enhanced payroll.
Succeeding in business is not just about making money.
The only way to get love is to be lovable. It's very
irritating if you have a lot of money. You'd like to think you could
write a check: 'I'll buy a million dollars' worth of love.' But it
doesn't work that way. The more you give love away, the more you get.
In modern society, where most people live in cities,
and where both needs and wishes are absolved through the same remote
agency - money - the distinction between wishes and needs has altogether
vanished.
I live a good life but a pretty simply life. I just
store all my money under my mattress. My wife and I travel, and I bought
my dream car, the Cobra.
You can no longer define your manhood by whether you're on a nine-to-five job or you're making more money than your wife.
If you live in a good neighborhood, you drive home
and there's a bank. There's grocery stores and big houses - but no
motels. What that tells you psychologically is you protect your money
and buy good things for your family to eat in your nice big house.
There is only one boss. The customer. And he can
fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by
spending his money somewhere else.
I had a really hard time growing up; we were a large family, and we didn't have much money at home.
There is no filmmaking legislation because
distributors are not interested in sharing their money with the film
industry - for instance, by giving a percentage of ticket sales back to
filmmakers.
Most of the people around me have a vested interest
in how much money I make. You know, so a celebrity could find themselves
in a position where people could have meetings about their life without
them involved. And when I say 'their life' I mean not their
professional life either. They could talk about their personal life.
'Shabiha' is a difficult word to translate into
English. It comes from the word Syrians used to describe the luxury
Mercedes favored by the Assad family's operatives that the enforcers of
the regime used to move money, smuggle weapons and intimidate opponents.
Democrats are people who raise your taxes and spend
your money on weird stuff. They steal your guns, and they spit on your
faith. And because the Democratic Party was taken over by the aggressive
secular guys, they became hostile not just to conservative Catholics
and evangelical Christians, but Orthodox Jews and Muslims and Mormons.
The first time you marry for love, the second for money, and the third for companionship.
Michael Jordan brings millions of dollars when he
shows up in an arena. Since money is how we judge people, he's very
valuable. But while that's happening, Rome is burning within the black
community.
What I have found is that, in a family business
structure, sometimes what is needed is a sense of discipline rather than
creativity. You have to take everyone's ideas and make it work. When
you are dealing with money, there is a limitation on how creative you
can be.
It is obviously no secret that I earn a lot of
money. But it is also no secret that I give most of it away. I don't
live a luxurious life. I drive a small second-hand Fiat. I don't have to
worry about money, which is itself a privilege. But I never had any
anxiety that I would lose my identity.
I just feel like, with rappers, there's so much
complacency. It's like, 'Oh, I'm a rapper. I'm successful. I make money.
That's all that matters.' But there's a lot of stuff going on in the
world. Whether or not you're aware of it, it's happening.
Safe care saves lives and saves money. Adverse
events like high levels of infection, blood clots or falls in hospital,
emergency readmissions and pressure sores cost the NHS billions of
pounds every year. There is a serious human cost, too, with patients
ending up injured, or even dead. Most are avoidable with the right care.
The rich are always going to say that, you know,
just give us more money and we'll go out and spend more and then it will
all trickle down to the rest of you. But that has not worked the last
10 years, and I hope the American public is catching on.
My happiness doesn't come from money or fame. My happiness comes from seeing life without struggle.
Admittedly, a homosexual can be conditioned to react
sexually to a woman, or to an old boot for that matter. In fact, both
homo - and heterosexual experimental subjects have been conditioned to
react sexually to an old boot, and you can save a lot of money that way.
A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you're talking about real money.
I spent three days a week for 10 years educating
myself in the public library, and it's better than college. People
should educate themselves - you can get a complete education for no
money. At the end of 10 years, I had read every book in the library and
I'd written a thousand stories.
People see me as a person who can make them some
money, which makes it hard to make real friends. I'm asked to do a lot
of stuff for free - to wear certain clothes, turn up to events - people
use you to make money. I think that's why I tend to jump into
relationships.
Folks can't carry around money in their pocket.
They've got to go to an ATM machine, and they've got to pay a few
dollars to get their own dollars out of the machine. Who ever thought
you'd pay cash to get cash? That's where we've gotten to.
I don't know of a Democrat - whether they're a
conservative, a centrist or a liberal Democrat - that doesn't think that
it's important to have quality jobs that pay decent wages so that
families can support themselves, so that they can have the dignity of
being able to afford health care, put money aside for pension, buy a
home.
I am fiercely loyal to those willing to put their money where my mouth is.
Even though the money is great and the fame is
great, you still have a lot of disenfranchised young men that are
participating in the NFL that are not very happy. A lot of them are very
bitter. A lot them are very angry. So many of them have had no fathers
and no home life, and basically, no education.
For my money, I don't think there's been a better
comedy than 'Kung Fu Hustle' in a lot of years. That movie just knocked
me over.
A little thought and a little kindness are often worth more than a great deal of money.
The one thing I am very strict about is that I don't
like spending a lot of money on movies because the more money you
spend, I think the worse that they get.
I was a little press writer when the National
Endowment for the Arts came to my rescue and gave me an award. I
couldn't buy a light bulb. Almost more than the money, the awards are
important because they show that someone believes in you.
The first money I ever earned was for drawing stone tools.
Ridiculous yachts and private planes and big
limousines won't make people enjoy life more, and it sends out terrible
messages to the people who work for them. It would be so much better if
that money was spent in Africa - and it's about getting a balance.
London changes because of money. It's real estate.
If they can build some offices or expensive apartments they will, it's
money that changes everything in a city.
Tramping is too easy with all this money. My days
were more exciting when I was penniless and had to forage around for my
next meal... I've decided that I'm going to live this life for some time
to come. The freedom and simple beauty of it is just too good to pass
up.
I'm looking for backing for an unauthorized
auto-biography that I am writing. Hopefully, this will sell in such huge
numbers that I will be able to sue myself for an extraordinary amount
of money and finance the film version in which I will play everybody.
The old problems - love, money, security, status, health, etc. - are still here to plague us or please us.
Some guys travel with expensive Louis Vuitton
luggage but it gets all scratched up under the plane. I'd rather not
spend too much money on something that's just going to get messed up.
When a gently born spinster has little money, her
choices are few. She might receive an offer of marriage, but it's
unlikely to be from a wealthy man, so she'll have a hard life trying to
make ends meet for her growing family.
When I was around 15, I did my first movie. I was at
a kids' agency, and the third time I was invited to an audition, they
offered me a little part in some kiddie thing, and I earned my first
money. I was very proud that I could buy my first mountain bike with my
own money.
They put all this money into these huge films and
then no one goes to see them. That sort of shows they're out of touch.
Then everyone in town passes on my little movie and it does really well.
Money makes your life easier. If you're lucky to have it, you're lucky.
The price of every thing rises and falls from time
to time and place to place; and with every such change the purchasing
power of money changes so far as that thing goes.
If saving money is wrong, I don't want to be right!
A lot of people feel trapped by circumstance, by the
expectations of others or the perception that they need a lot of money.
They would like to have a different direction in their lives, but
they're held back by fear or desires that are incompatible with that
freedom.
It takes no compromising to give people their
rights. It takes no money to respect the individual. It takes no survey
to remove repressions.
Every Vacation movie didn't just make the studio money. They each made the studio a lot of money.
Don't forget, I'm 39. I didn't come here just for
the money to impress myself. I'm not saying I am going to be dominating.
I'm not saying I'm going to be good. But I can promise you I will do
all the right things to play.
I have nothing against investment banking, but it's
like massaging money rather than creating money. If you're in physics,
you create inventions, you create lasers, you create transistors,
computers, GPS.
When I got started in New York, it wasn't like it is
now. If you were different from Miles and Dizzy, it was very difficult
to make gigs and make money with your own style.
Rule No.1: Never lose money. Rule No.2: Never forget rule No.1.
I just really think every job I do, I get this gypsy attitude to money.
'Dawson's Creek' was my introduction to the
industry. It put some money in my pocket and it put me in the position I
wanted to be in, where I could audition for projects that I wanted to
be a part of. I didn't find it creatively fulfilling in any way though.
In school, my favorite subject was math. That's where I learned to count money.
I'm a little lavish I must admit. But I'm not really concerned with money. Being rich is not my goal, being wealthy is.
If the money we donate helps one child or can ease the pain of one parent, those funds are well spent.
I'm not a very good financing person. I don't even
know how much money I have in my bank account. I never have opened one
single envelope from the bank - they freak me out.
There are some terrorist organizations, there are
some organized crime organizations, that launder money through charities
and make donations to charities. That's not the purpose of charitable
donations in Canada, so we're becoming increasingly strict on the
subject.

A 'no flex zone' is an area where a lot of people can be themselves, live their life, get their money.
As long as you understand that you find happiness through family, friends and love, then money is just a nice bonus.
I dare say there may be some men and women in the
Armed Forces who are so decent that they would say: Give the Iraqi
people money, we do not want to be paid back. That is the strength of
our country.
Making money is a happiness. And that's a great incentive. Making other people happy is a super-happiness.
The reason that minorities and women don't have a
better shot at getting elected to the Senate or to statewide office is
because the campaign finance rules are so skewed as to make it very
difficult for non-traditional candidates to raise the money necessary to
get elected.
I went to Vegas for 22 years, married some absolutely charming women, and gave them all my money.
The most valuable thing that anyone will ever give you is their time. Not their money. Remember that.
Greed is not a financial issue. It's a heart issue.
Life started getting good when I started making money.
I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.
If we command our wealth, we shall be rich and free; if our wealth commands us, we are poor indeed.
The President must stop gambling with taxpayers' money and get the country back on the path of fiscal sanity.
We have already significant sums of money in our
petroleum fund, a fund created by law that includes all the revenues
received from the Timor Sea, and invests in conservative, safe,
long-term investment portfolios - right now in US Treasury Bonds.
Money is a mechanism for control.
My luck at the gambling table was varied; sometimes I
was fifty to a hundred dollars ahead, and at other times I had to
borrow money from my fellow workmen to settle my room rent and pay for
my meals.
All around as a person, on right decisions, on
holding your money, on doing your trade, a good education is a must. I
don't think I would've done as good without an education.
But it's a blessing to be so successful within a
year; it's the greatest feeling in the world, making money and doing the
things that I'm doing, and I definitely trying to continue doing what
I'm doing.
I would say the most satisfying thing actually is
watching my three children each pick up on their own interests and work
many more hours per week than most people that have jobs at trying to
intelligently give away that money in fields that they particularly care
about.
Money can buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail.
We go to school to learn to work hard for money. I
write books and create products that teach people how to have money work
hard for them.
Three groups spend other people's money: children, thieves, politicians. All three need supervision.
A nation that continues year after year to spend
more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is
approaching spiritual doom.
In fact, the confidence of the people is worth more than money.
The flood of money that gushes into politics today is a pollution of democracy.
Rice at present prices provides more food for the money than most of the other cereals.
Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping.
Money brings a lot of responsibility as to what you're going to do with it, and I've given quite a bit of thought to that.
Here's how I think of my money - as soldiers - I
send them out to war everyday. I want them to take prisoners and come
home, so there's more of them.
My world was completely different to other boys my
age. When I was six I was earning money, and by 10 I was paying more tax
than the parents of other pupils. I feel a lot older than my years.
Because I was working with adults, I had to mature a lot quicker.
A man is usually more careful of his money than of his principles.
A wise man should have money in his head, but not in his heart.
I am very fortunate I can send my kids to private
school, but everybody does not have the money. If you cannot get your
kid in a good school today, your kids are going to be behind the eight
ball.
Money is only useful when you get rid of it. It is
like the odd card in 'Old Maid'; the player who is finally left with it
has lost.
The easy way to make money is to get special
political privilege. From the beginning of time, business has cozied up
to government and gotten restrictions on competition and subsidies and
stuff.
We have to change public perception of ex-convicts.
Most Canadians don't realize that when you come out of prison, you're a
complete pariah. You can't get a car loan or money from a bank to start a
business. So most end up back in prison within 24 months. It's just so
wrong. We need to fix this problem.
Anyone who wants to sell you overnight success or wealth is not interested in your success; they are interested in your money.
There are so many different kinds of motivation for
investing or giving or parting with your money in whatever other way,
and plain old financial return is obviously attractive. But people are
not always rational and are not just looking for that.
You don't appreciate a lot of stuff in school until
you get older. Little things like being spanked every day by a
middle-aged woman: Stuff you pay good money for in later life.
Every two months, I would get an email, 'Skeleton Twins update: still don't have the money!'
America... just a nation of two hundred million used
car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about
killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.
I'm not really religious but very spiritual. I give
money to this company that manufactures hearing aids on a regular basis.
More people should really hear me sing. I have a gift from God.
I was both very successful and very left; the living
demonstration of how you could be on the left and still be in the
gossip columns and be envied for the money you made.
What have I got? No looks, no money, no education. Just talent.
The Internet didn't get invented on its own.
Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could
make money off the Internet. The point is, is that when we succeed, we
succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do
things together.
For years, I have been working on crossing the Grand
Canyon. Actually, there is nobody who says 'no,' but since this is a
project that comes from me and not a commission, I have to find the
money, plan the logistics, etcetera.
Music has always been my back door to life. It is
important for people to find something that excites them. I like the
concept that if you do what excites you, you will be rewarded
generously, whatever form reward takes, which is not necessarily money.
My motivation has always been to do technology apps
and companies, not making money. Just because the money's come,
nothing's changed.
I have long believed taxpayers make better use of their money than the government ever could.
It's funny: I put money into short films, and I put
really good actors in it, and I write some stuff that's really funny,
and I'll get, like, a million views. But to the right of me, there will
be a video of a kitten that falls into a toilet bowl, and it's three
seconds long, and it will get 25 million views.
There's something about a holiday that isn't all about how much money you spend.
If you are making money writing, you are doing
great. If you can support yourself writing, you are a success. I don't
care if you're writing textbooks or Pulitzer Prize-winning articles for
weighty publications of world renown: If you're writing and it's paying
the bills, consider yourself a successful writer.
If you can count your money, you don't have a billion dollars.
I'm old enough to have friends and contemporaries
who have long since retired, and that's their prerogative - enough is
enough; it doesn't mean a thing to me. But I haven't got any money, so,
you know, I just keep on working.
The only thing I like about rich people is their money.
Being a Mets fan is like lending someone a lot of money and you just know that you'll never get paid back.
In its famous paradox, the equation of money and
excrement, psychoanalysis becomes the first science to state what common
sense and the poets have long known - that the essence of money is in
its absolute worthlessness.
Money has never made man happy, nor will it, there
is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has
the more one wants.
There's a major underlying idea as you grow up that
you need to just save your money and get that affordable housing at the
edge of town where you're away from the city where all the crime happens
or whatever.
Don't judge me. I made a lot of money.
I think a lot of times it's not money that's the
primary motivation factor; it's the passion for your job and the
professional and personal satisfaction that you get out of doing what
you do that motivates you.
It's easy to love yourself when you feel good
enough, when you feel special enough, when you're loved enough, when you
have enough money, and you're appreciated.
A savvy entrepreneur will not always look for investment money, first.
For 10 years, I'd been working as a freelance writer
and editor, making money but not a living. It was a good arrangement
family-wise, allowing me to stay home with our daughter, but not so
great financially or, sometimes, ego-wise.
The Fed should make a clear commitment to stable
money to reduce the swings in interest rates and inflation. Instead, it
champions and flaunts unstable money. This encourages momentum trading
and the growth of derivatives. Meanwhile, layers of financial regulation
make Washington bigger and more powerful but don't fix the underlying
problems.
You will never catch up with the spread of AIDS no
matter how much money, no matter how many antiretrovirals are put into
the system, unless you stop its growth. And the only way to stop its
growth is prevention.
That first company I started made a lot of money for
the venture capitalists - nearly $30 million - but next to nothing for
the founders. The companies I started after that varied between failures
and mediocre successes. But at no point did I ever consider getting a
'real job.' That felt like a black and white world, and I wanted
Technicolor.
He who receives money in trust to administer for the
benefit of its owner, and uses it either for his own interest or
against the wishes of its rightful owner, is a thief.
If my colleagues stop eating donuts and are more
active, it saves me money on next year's insurance premium, and I get to
work with people who have more energy and creativity each day. Yet most
organizations fail to make health a cultural priority. Instead, they
treat healthcare like any other expense.
When I was young and it was someone's birthday, I
didn't have the money to buy nice presents so I would take my mom's
camera and make a movie parody for whoever's birthday it was. When I'd
show it them, they'd die laughing. That reaction was a high for me, and I
loved that feeling.
When people evaluate their life, they compare
themselves to a standard of what a successful life is, and it turns out
that standard tends to be universal: People in Togo and Denmark have the
same idea of what a good life is, and a lot of that has to do with
money and material prosperity.
Many financial and industrial companies have been
bailed out with the public's money, but very few of those who had run
those companies have been punished for their failures. Yes, the top
managers of those companies have lost their jobs - but with a fat
pension and mostly with a handsome severance payment.
I am essentially a hack, a commercial person. If I had a hobby, I would immediately make money on it or abandon it.
The law courts must appear as a threatening gesture
toward secret vice. The bank must declare: here your money is secure and
well looked after by honest people.
But if I didn't have to make money, I would still play my horn.
It's a long, slow sunset for ink-on-paper magazines, but sunsets can produce vast sums of money.
For me, relationship is very important. I can lose
money, but I cannot lose a relationship. The test is, at the end of a
conversation or a negotiation, both must smile.
What a sound money system does is to stabilize all
the elements in it, and reduces the uncertainty that people confront.
And the one thing all human beings do when they are confronted with
uncertainty is pull back, withdraw, disengage, and that means economic
activity, which is really dealing with people, just goes straight down.
Instead of giving money to found colleges to promote
learning, why don't they pass a constitutional amendment prohibiting
anybody from learning anything? If it works as good as the Prohibition
one did, why, in five years we would have the smartest race of people on
earth.
The 'American Idol' and 'X Factor' shows, they're
great shows. But I think I need to make a show like that, directed
straight to the hood, to the artists that don't get the attention, that
don't have the money to make themselves representable.
The modern banking system manufactures money out of nothing.
Money coming in says I've made the right marketing decisions.
I don't do this for the money, I don't do it for record sales, I don't really care about that, I just want to make beats.
Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.
If your goal is to make money, becoming an
entrepreneur is a sucker's bet. Sure, some entrepreneurs make a lot of
money, but if you calculate the amount of stress-inducing work and time
it takes and multiply that by the low likelihood of success and eventual
payoff, it is not a great way to get rich.
As a rule, bond funds will not double your money overnight.
My other family is Fleetwood Mac. I don't need the
money, but there's an emotional need for me to go on the road again.
There's a love there; we're a band of brothers.
People who get trapped in the tunnel vision of making money think that is all there is to life.
When one is giving service for the advancement of
humanity, when one is working without money and without price, with no
hope of earthly reward, there comes a real, genuine joy into the human
heart.
When I had money in the past, I would always travel
rather than spend it on big apartments or cars. And I still feel exactly
the same way.
What do most people say on their deathbed? They
don't say, 'I wish I'd made more money.' What they say is, 'I wish I'd
spent more time with my family and done more for society or my
community.'
There's so much importance in honoring your everyday
hero. It doesn't take money. It doesn't take connections. What matters
is that people get involved. Whether your passion is gun control or food
or whatever it may be, everybody needs to stop being so self-absorbed.
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money.
To protect people's lives and keep our children
safe, we must implement public-works spending and do so proudly. If
possible, I'd like to see the Bank of Japan purchase all of the
construction bonds that we need to issue to cover the cost. That would
also forcefully circulate money in the market. That would be positive
for the economy, too.
When I chased after money, I never had enough. When I
got my life on purpose and focused on giving of myself and everything
that arrived into my life, then I was prosperous.
I'm not a big fan of a lot of government dollars
going into research and development for private enterprises... and
you're not going to see the House of Representatives, I'm certain,
provide a lot of money for research and development for electric
vehicles.
I am not a person who pursues luxury. I am not like
those people who, once they have money, compulsively squander it or show
it off.
The class distinctions proper to a democratic
society are not those of rank or money, still less, as is apt to happen
when these are abandoned, of race, but of age.
New York is the Hollywood of the publishing
industry, complete with stars, starlets, suicidal publishers/producers,
intrigues, and a lot of money.
I'm not a driven businessman, but a driven artist. I never think about money. Beautiful things make money.

That's wonderful. And what did you do with the money?
When the National Security Agency recruited me, they
put me through a day of lie detector tests. They found out all my
weaknesses and immediately seduced me. They used the strongest drugs in
our culture, sex, power and money, to win me over.
What's more condescending and corny than someone
telling you how much more money they have than you and telling you
basically, 'I don't care about poor people,' which is a large part of
what you hear of corporate hip-hop on the radio.
For the past few years, I've been more selective
than I have any right to be, but I think that's finally starting to work
in my favor. I think I get way too much credit for making what people
consider to be smart choices, but it's only because I made a decision to
stop worrying about making money.
Money will determine whether the accused goes to prison or walks out of the courtroom a free man.
Your first projects aren't the greatest things in
the world, and they may have no money value, they may go nowhere, but
that is how you learn - you put so much effort into making something
right if it is for yourself.
Too many people spend money they haven't earned to buy things they don't want to impress people they don't like.
I know why most people never get rich. They put the
money ahead of the job. If you just think of the job, the money will
automatically follow. This never fails.
A fly cannot go in unless it stops somewhere;
therefore weapons, fuel, food, money will not go to Afghanistan unless
the neighbors of Afghanistan are working, are cooperating, either being
themselves the origin or the transit.
One of the defense mechanisms I have for the
difficulties in the business, one of which is rejection, is that if I do
the work, I go in, and I'm prepared and I audition and they don't hire
me, I'm always just amazed, thinking, 'Wow! For that money, they
could've had Bruce McGill, and they didn't take me? I just think that's
amazing.'
I come from nothing. When I got a chance to make some money, I was like, 'Man, I'm not ever going back.'
Our public school system is our country's biggest and most inefficient monopoly, yet it keeps demanding more and more money.
Some argue we should get coal, oil and gas out of
the ground as quickly as possible, build more pipelines and make as much
money as we can selling it here and abroad. Their priorities are the
economy and meeting short-term energy needs so we can live the lives to
which we've become accustomed.
IBM has research and development; so do Microsoft
and Nike and even Jose Andres. But there hasn't been enough R&D on
feeding people in the Third World. This has to be part of the process;
if not, we'll keep throwing money at the problem instead of investing in
true solutions.
When you're making an independent film what you don't have in time and money you have to make up with creativity and diligence.
Each time you go to the grocery store with your
kids, it is a potential learning opportunity. In order not to
overemphasize materialism, focus on other things to do with money. In
'Beyond the Lemonade Stand,' I try to emphasize the importance of saving
money, and of using it to help other people.
Profit or perish... There are only two ways to make money: increase sales and decrease costs.
Why are people unemployed? Because there is no work.
Why is there no work? Because people are not buying products and
services. Why are people not buying products and services? Because they
have no money. Why do people have no money? Because they are unemployed.
Time is money, as they say, and it was never more apropos than on a television show, where a minute is worth about $200!

A large family and Democrats have a lot in common: teenagers and Democrats are always happy spending other people's money.
My mother, she had a very good attitude toward
money. I'm very grateful for the fact that we had to learn to save. I
used to get like 50 pence a week, and I'd save it for like five months.
And then I'd spend it on Christmas presents. I'd save up like eight
pounds. It's nothing, but we did that.
One Christmas I had no money, and so I went home and
just, like, wrote a poem; I mean, I didn't write them, but I just
handed out poems as Christmas presents. Like, 'Here's a Pablo Neruda
poem that really made me think of you.'
Jesus of Nazareth was the most famous human being
who ever lived on this planet, and he had no infrastructure, and it's
never been done. He had no government, no PR guy, no money, no
structure. He had nothing, yet he became the most famous human being
ever.
A good reputation is more valuable than money.
Great pressure is put on kids who don't have dads to
get out and make money, and make life easier for everybody. It was
always, 'Hurry up, grow up, make money, there's no man to do it for us.'
The Stones don't really need to do it for money, so
they must get some kind of pleasure out of it. They're not like a group
that's disbanded and gone away and made a comeback. They've always been
there.
My philosophy has always been, 'do what you love and the money will follow.'
Childfree women are actually great assets to the
planet. Our carbon footprint is smaller than a mom's! And we have enough
money to write checks to organizations that help kids get vaccinations,
vitamins, and educations yet have plenty of free time to advise your
daughter that one day she will regret piercing her lip.
Sensitivity and money are like parallel lines. They don't meet.

have borrowed money if it could be used to prevent the Great Depression.
As a novelist, I tell stories and people give me money. Then financial planners tell me stories and I give them money.

on in my home.
I spent ninety percent of my money on wine, women and song and just wasted the other ten percent.
You loan your friend money. You see them again, they
don't say nothin' 'bout the money. 'Hi, how ya doin'? How's ya mama
doing?' Man, how's my money doin'?
The movie business is not about the money. Of
course, you need money to make the movie. If you have a small budget,
adapt yourself. Having $200 million dollars doesn't ensure that you're
definitely going to make a good movie. There's so many examples that
prove that.
Successive American presidents have turned a blind
eye to piles of evidence that Saudi money is being used to foment holy
war against America.
Once the brokerage house, rather than the bank,
became the locus for American savings, that money would find its way
into the stock market, because the broker was someone with a much higher
tolerance for risk than the banker.
Nothing is more dangerous to men than a sudden change of fortune.
I have lifestyle requirements. Photos, meetings,
lunches, dinners, facial care, tooth care. It requires an exorbitant
amount of money.
A fine timepiece is part of dressing like a

which was a Rolex Daytona. It was just one of those things that said I
was successful.
Today, the concept of business is to make money. Making money is the name of the business.
I'm Southern, but I need to be out making my own money, and impacting the world outside of my house.

in achievement, and derive meaning from knowing that their work improved
the lives of others.
There's no such thing as a free lunch.
I never wanted to rely on my family for money.
Innovation has nothing to do with how many R & D
dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at
least 100 times more on R & D. It's not about money. It's about the
people you have, how you're led, and how much you get it.
If we were motivated by money, we would have sold the company a long time ago and ended up on a beach.
The lack of money is the root of all evil.
I don't think business news is just for old white men with money.
Spirituality does two things for you. One, you are
forced to become more selfless, two, you trust to providence. The
opposite of a spiritual man is a materialist. If I was a materialist I
would be making lots of money doing endorsements, doing cricket
commentary. I have no interest in that.

for the state? It's simply another example of Republicans fighting the
governor tooth and nail against any measure where she might be able to
turn the state's budget around.
In real estate, you make 10% of your money because you're a genius and 90% because you catch a great wave.
The Bollywood distribution system is so corrupt that
they have trouble making money off movies. So they sell shoes that an
actress stepped in. If they turned up the amps some, maybe they could
sell the actresses.
Demographics show that we are entering a battle
between young and old. I call it the 'Age War.' The young want to hang
onto their money to grow their families, businesses, and wealth. The old
want the tax and investment dollars of the young to sustain their old
age.
We didn't have a whole lot of money when I was
growing up either. I would always ask for magic books or magic tricks
for my birthday or for Christmas and the rest of the year I either had
to mow lawns or find part time jobs to help supplement the cost of doing
magic.
Many businesses fail because the owner wasn't
willing to invest and wasn't educated on the difference between spending
money frivolously and investing money into the business for growth, and
the risks and rewards of that cash infusion.
One suggestion my wife and I have used in our
personal finance courses we teach at college is simply writing down all
expenditures and seeing where the money goes. That alone will cause
heads of households to think twice about x, y or z expenditure, and to
consider carefully whether they really need something or not.
The true currency of life is time, not money, and we've all got a limited stock of that.
Don't underestimate the cosmetic power of
sunglasses. It's worth spending a bit of money on a quality pair. I
usually go for Dior or Louis Vuitton.

money, but the truth was I was like a man pushing a boulder up a hill. A
huge, heavy, difficult boulder made up of some career mistakes,
projects that didn't meet expectations, and twenty years of being a
known quantity.
As kids we didn't complain about being poor; we
talked about how rich we were going to be and made moves to get the

I used to have a theory actually that, if you've had

Credit expansion and money printing hasn't filtered
much to ordinary people. It's boosted asset markets, real estate and
stocks. So well-to-do-people have done very well.
I wasn't raised super-poor, but my parents got
divorced, and my mother didn't have much money. Even now if I have a
cake, I'll eat it slowly, and I save most of the money I have.
The parents have a right to say that no teacher paid
by their money shall rob their children of faith in God and send them
back to their homes skeptical, or infidels, or agnostics, or atheists.

We need more transparency and accountability in
government so that people know how their money is being spent. That
means putting budgets online, putting legislation online.
I made 'Siam Sunset.' In Australia, it was pretty

saw it loved that film, so in 2001 I made a film in America called
'Swimfan,' and they released like a big studio movie, and it made money.
Paris is a danger for people like me. We spend our rent money in Paris on clothes.

Definition of an independent film is torture with less money and time.
Behavior used to be reinforced by great deprivation;
if people weren't hungry, they wouldn't work. Now we are committed to
feeding people whether they work or not. Nor is money as great a
reinforcer as it once was. People no longer work for punitive reasons,
yet our culture offers no new satisfactions.
Nowadays love is a matter of chance, matrimony a matter of money and divorce a matter of course.
Artists usually don't make all that much money, and
they often keep their artistic hobby despite the money rather than due
to it.
When I decided to be a musician I reckoned that that
was going to be the way of less profit, less money. I was sort of
giving up the idea of making a lot of money. It was what I loved to do. I
would have done it anyway. If I'd had to work at Taco Bell I'd have
still been out at night trying to play music.

Right after 9/11, I mean, every agency can give
their own gradation, but a nice, popular rule of thumb is everybody
doubled down. I ended up in NSA with about twice as much money as I had

My parents survived the Great Depression and brought
me up to live within my means, save some for tomorrow, share and don't
be greedy, work hard for the necessities in life knowing that money does
not make you better or more important than anyone else. So,
extravagance has been bred out of my DNA.
If all you're doing is making money, you have a luxurious but empty life.
People spend time worrying about things they think
they have to have and lose perception of what they do have. You can have

When we die our money, fame, and honors will be

Get that right, then- if you get the quality right,
then the marketability or whatever; your ability to sell videos or your
ability to earn money or whatever, will follow naturally. But try to be

I have learned so many things from my mother about

Jeffersons, George Washingtons, a couple of Susan B. Anthony's,
Roosevelts, Hamiltons, a Sacajawea or two, and an Abe Lincoln to cover
Scalia in full.

means you have more unemployed people that then draw unemployment
benefits and don't pay taxes.
Take opera for example - to go to the opera you have to dress up in a tuxedo and pay lots of money.

that my dad had to sell my grandmother's flat to pay off the loan.
I'd have to say, for me, as a child, my favorite
memories were always centered around Christmas time. It always seemed
like no matter how much money my parents had or didn't have, we got
completely spoiled rotten. There were always presents under the tree,
and we always did special things, like hide elves around the house.
The curse of covetousness is that it destroys manhood by substituting money for character.

part of my parenting, to keep them conscientious and connected socially
to other people.
I always want to say to people who want to be rich
and famous: 'try being rich first'. See if that doesn't cover most of
it. There's not much downside to being rich, other than paying taxes and
having your relatives ask you for money. But when you become famous,
you end up with a 24-hour job.
The key to making money in angel investing is saying no. You meet with 100 companies and say no to 99 of them.

feel like a bad Dickens character.
It's always weird when people approach me to make an
investment. I tell them, 'I don't need any more money. I'm good.' Then I
wait for their expression. That part is entertaining, because people

money. Who says that?

And I think the more money you put in people's
hands, the more they will spend. And if they don't spend it, they invest
it. And investing it is another way of creating jobs. It puts money
into mutual funds or other kinds of banks that can go out and make
loans, and we need to do that.

majority. We fell in love with power. We spent way too much money -

I visualise what I want through meditation. The
process of meditating is a great way of making sure I have my priorities
sorted. It's not about money - I focus on my career and the kind of

mantra is that you should do what you love, and the money will follow.

and kill him if he resists.

high rates, as high as 15, 20 percent.
I'd rather be useful than rich. It's more essential
to feel you're doing something that's worth doing, rather than making a
lot of money.
Economically, many folks don't feel they can afford
organic. While this may be true in some cases, I think more often than
not it's a question of priority. I feel it's one of the most important
areas of concern ecologically, because the petrochemical giants -
DuPont, Monsanto - make huge money by poisoning us.

to spend when we are there.
In 1975, when my students were kidnapped by rebels, I

always a frightening blue color. So when you take out clothes that
reveal your legs, shoes that have any kind of heel, no shop will
actually take my money.
I run a charity. If my name pops up in your call ID,

some of it back to the community.

not the dominating factor. When Chelsea play a Carling Cup game in a

We Hoosiers hold to some quaint notions. Some might
say we 'cling' to them, though not out of fear or ignorance. We believe
in paying our bills. We have kept our state in the black throughout the
recent unpleasantness, while cutting rather than raising taxes, by
practicing an old tribal ritual - we spend less money than we take in.
Society has a hyper emphasis on thin, and that trend

stuff that's out of consensus.

many different kinds of smarts for people to know all the smarts.

We design our own programmes; we take leadership. Of
course the donors come in to support us, to complement our efforts. Our
responsibility to the donors is about accountability: about how we use
that money. If somebody gives you his money, definitely he will be
interested in knowing how you spend the money.
I am very picky with my career. I don't need to do
it for the money or the fame. I'm very choosy, which is why I haven't
played the typical role that people expect to see from someone of my
stature and size, as the mean jock or the preppy. It's very easy to see
me like that. That's why I go against it in different roles.
After the $700 billion bailout, the trillion-dollar
stimulus, and the massive budget bill with over 9,000 earmarks, many of
you implored Washington to please stop spending money we don't have.
But, instead of cutting, we saw an unprecedented explosion of government
spending and debt, unlike anything we have seen in the history of our
country.
Lordy, lordy, lordy do I love money. It is a
character flaw, no doubt, one that springs from a panicked childhood in
which I always felt as if our family was only a couple missed child
support payments from being tossed onto the pitiless streets of our
suburban New Jersey town.
Human beings are much bigger than just making money.
I'm potentially worth a lot of money, but I've got to go and make something that's worth a lot of money.
Honestly, I'm not an extravagant person; I don't spend a lot of money.
We need to shift from an economic organizing
principle for human civilization, to a humanitarian organizing
principle. Making money more important than your own children is a
pathological way for an individual to run their affairs, and it's a
pathological way for a society to run its affairs.
I've lived in many things - boats, caravans, and
buses. I've been homeless, I've had no money: everything. But I believe
in magic, and having a vision. The tough times made me a warrior. I work
hard.
Every new computer program is basically doing some
task that a person used to do. But the computer usually does it faster,
more accurately, for less money, and without any health insurance costs.
When done right - or wrong, depending on how you
look at it - deficits remove liberal options from the table. Suddenly
there's no money for building bridges or inspecting meat. Not
surprisingly, running up a deficit is a strategy favored by the wrecking
crew for its liberal-killing properties.
I don't mind rude people. I want people that I can
make money with, so if their executional abilities are good, and they're
arrogant and rude, I don't care.
I used to hang out at karaoke bars all the time. It was the most fun you could have when you had no money.

of the starting block because you'll spend all your money making foolish
decisions.

After Scour, I started a company called Red Swoosh.
The idea was to take those litigants who sued us for a huge amount of
money and turn them into customers with the same technology. I wanted to
get them to pay me. It was a revenge business.

At 17, I was working at Sprint in the Bronx so I could make money to fund my own music.
Those companies that don't see the black and brown
communities are missing, out of their closed eye, talent, which leads to
money and growth. When baseball, football and basketball couldn't see
the field, they missed talent and growth. The same is true in the tech
industry.
I might say that in retrospect, looking at where the
community college system is today, I think we may have gone too far.
The community college system is so big, so broad, so consuming of tax
money.
The money to fund great things and innovations and
programs is gone in our lifetime; it's all gone to debt. So we won't be
able to solve global warming or have the transportation that we needed
for the 21st century. We should be supporting people with great ideas,
but it's gone, and now it's gotta be paid back with interest to banks in
China.
I mean, price is price. It's just where you want to spend your money.
Many scammers are only using personal checks for payment because they can take the money and run.
The three biggest fashion mistakes are cheap suits, shoes, and shirts. Spend your money on something good.
It's all about the money.
Most of the time, I don't even watch what I do on
TV. I go in, get the job done, and just know it's nothing. It's a job.
Sometimes, I try something different, and I'll watch out of curiosity.
Generally, I don't watch too much of what I do. Movies are basically the
same, except it's more money spent on sets.
I always feel like 'as long as I'm doin' what I love
to do, the money's naturally gonna come.' When you start thinkin'
business and you start thinkin' 'What's hot? What's the wave? Who is
hot? Let's get at that person,' it becomes a point where you're tryin'
to strategize to make money. And that's always a gamble.
I'm not that lazy, but I don't need that much money. I lead a fairly simple life.
There are two things I will never do in my life. I
will never climb Mount Everest, and I will never work with Val Kilmer
again. There isn't enough money in the world.
I've had a tough time learning how to act like a congressman. Today I accidentally spent some of my own money.

If you make a living, if you earn your own money, you're free - however free one can be on this planet.
Writing is not the easiest way to make a living. Your work long hours, usually all by yourself. It is not a way to make money.
Marriage is a lot of things - a source of love,
security, the joy of children, but it's also an interpersonal
battlefield, and it's not hard to see why: Take two disparate people,
toss them together in often-confined quarters, add the stresses of money
and kids - now lather, rinse, repeat for the rest of your natural life.
What could go wrong?
We are told there is not enough money for education,
but somehow there is enough money for people to raise billions of
dollars to defeat somebody in an election? Oh! Okay! Does that make
sense?
A trip to the picture framer's, with a selection of
prints, is the most joyous outing I can imagine. I've spent more money
on framing than on anything else I own.
I lend people money, but I'd never lend something that would jeopardise a friendship if I didn't get it back.
It's rather naive, apart from being ethically
objectionable, to assume that our investigators travel around the
country with bags of money trying to bribe witnesses to lie on the
witness stand. We just don't operate that way.
In return, society rewards those who give it what it
wants. That is why how much money people have earned is a rough measure
of how much they gave society what it wanted.
Anyway, Cat Stevens is never going to make much money out of us.
Friends and good manners will carry you where money won't go.
I truly believe that women should be financially
independent from their men. And let's face it, money gives men the power
to run the show. It gives men the power to define value. They define
what's sexy. And men define what's feminine. It's ridiculous.
You don't suffer, kill yourself and take the risks I take just for money. I love bike racing.
Having money is great. It's fun. The more the better.
Washington is dominated by big money.
The United States lived on borrowed money for too
long, inflating its financial sector unnecessarily and neglecting its
small and mid-sized industrial companies.
In the '30s, the Keynesian stuff worked at least in
the sense that you could print money without inflation because there was
all this productivity growth happening. That's not going to work today.
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.
A simple fact that is hard to learn is that the time to save money is when you have some.
Unless you're living on the street and surviving on a
diet of discarded turkey drumsticks, there's no point in being gloomy.
We've spent too long trying to cheer ourselves up by spending money on
brightly coloured things we don't really need. We've stopped using our
imaginations.
Why do you judge me as a musician, John? All I'm interested in is making money.
I hate wasting time or money and that happens all
the time for no good reason, and then people save money by skimping on
the important things.
After 'Sports' came out in the fall of 1983,
everything changed for me. Four of the album's singles became top-10
hits, and by the end of June in 1984, the album was No. 1 on the
Billboard chart. It was quite a ride, and for the first time I had
enough money to live the way I wanted.
We have an obligation and a responsibility to be
investing in our students and our schools. We must make sure that people
who have the grades, the desire and the will, but not the money, can
still get the best education possible.
Making money is marvelous, and I love doing it, and I
do it reasonably well, but it doesn't have the gripping vitality that
you have when you deal with the happiness of human life and with human
deprivation.
Money takes wings. The only thing that endures is character.
There's a bigger difference now than when I first
got into professional baseball because that was before guaranteed
contracts, before there was a lot of money, so it was mostly survival.
You had more competition.
Never take advice from anyone in a tie. They'll
bankrupt you. Don't ask a general for advice on war, and don't ask a
broker for advice on money.
Life is a game. Money is how we keep score.
I have no one to leave the money to. I'm a single man. I like spending my money.
Family and God - that is what's important. Money, cars, those are things that come and go.

I'll audition for something and then the feedback
has been, 'The director wants you, the creative people want you, but the
studio is saying no.' It's depressing, but I understand. People are
investing a lot of money and they want somewhat of a guarantee; they
want someone who's been on the cover of magazines.
I do spend money. I like to spend money, on houses -
on furnishing houses. And I love to give presents to people. It's just
in my nature to be that way. I always spent money I had. And I always
spent what I made. I'm not stingy.
If money is your hope for independence you will
never have it. The only real security that a man will have in this world
is a reserve of knowledge, experience, and ability.
An entrepreneur needs to know what they need,
period. Then they need to find an investor who can build off whatever
their weaknesses are - whether that's through money, strategic
partnerships or knowledge.
It costs a great deal of money to do a musical, and the more money involved, the more big business influences the artform.
Sports betting is all about money management, so the most money won on one event is not the most important thing.
Entrepreneurs are risk takers, willing to roll the
dice with their money or reputation on the line in support of an idea or
enterprise. They willingly assume responsibility for the success or
failure of a venture and are answerable for all its facets.
Money can't buy happiness, but it can make you awfully comfortable while you're being miserable.
I take the fact that films cost a lot of money very
seriously, but once in a while to have somebody say, This is a big
scene, take your time with it, is important. That's John Sayles.
The world's central banks and the International
Monetary Fund still have vaults full of bullion, even though currencies

magic symbol, a way of reassuring people that their money is real.
People value and spend their money more wisely when they acquire it by their own efforts - also known as work.
I waste a lot of money buying the same pair of shoes.
My family has very strong women. My mother never
laughed at my dream of Africa, even though everyone else did because we
didn't have any money, because Africa was the 'dark continent', and
because I was a girl.
Italians have always had a high savings rate. They
love putting their money into their own government bonds - even more
than in houses, stocks and gold. The higher rates climb, the happier
they are to invest. So if austerity plans drive rates up, it's music to
Italian ears.
At first, we couldn't be establishment, because we
didn't have any money. We were guerrilla marketers, and we still are, a
little bit. But, as we became No. 1 in our industry, we've had to modify
our culture and become a bit more planned.
Money to me is not a factor in my life.
Most people work just hard enough not to get fired and get paid just enough money not to quit.
Yes, it is worse than thrown away, because every

wrecks homes and brings trouble to innocent women and children.
The irony here is this administration is spending
more money on climate change research and development than any
administration in all the rest of the industrialized world combined.

solution in the general interest will be frustrated and subverted by the
corporate interests who feel they will be damaged by progress, fair
play and justice.
I think it's too bad that everybody's decided to
turn on drugs, I don't think drugs are the problem. Crime is the
problem. Cops are the problem. Money's the problem. But drugs are just
drugs.
The Violence Against Women Act is so important. It
provides money to train the cop on the beat, to train the judges that
this is a new day, that we won't tolerate this violence and to know how
to deal with it.
Women with money and women in power are two uncomfortable ideas in our society.
People are sad. People are broke. People are worried
about money, people are worried that they're not enough and not
amounting to anything and they don't feel good about themselves. People
have rough times, and everybody's pretending it's not true, and we need
to break that veneer.
As a busker, one thing that does not work is
self-consciousness. A busker needs to be working. A busker needs to shed
all ego and get down to work. Play your songs, play them well, earn
your money, and don't get in people's way.
Money you won't need to use for at least seven years
is money for investing. The goal here is to have your account grow over
time to help you finance a distant goal, such as building a retirement
fund. Since your goal is in the future, money for investing belongs in
stocks.
I've always loved clothes, especially handbags and
shoes. I'd rather save my money on clothing and wear crap, but have the
handbags and shoes.
How can a bureaucrat or a politician be trusted if

his funds, his money abroad?
My top priority will be to secure maximum value for
money in aid through greater transparency, rigorous independent
evaluation and an unremitting focus on results.
Always make sure you have your rent. At the end of
the month, if you have to eat Ramen for a week because you won't have
your rent money, just do it but make sure your rent is all there so
you're not stressing about that. As long as you have your rent at least
you have somewhere to live.

writer, director and the people who put up the money, to put out the

condition as it relates to the role one has been hired to portray.
There's nothing more satisfying than seeing a happy
and smiling child. I always help in any way I can, even if it's just by
signing an autograph. A child's smile is worth more than all the money
in the world.
The first time I had money, I was extravagant, but
then you realise it's not just about that. If I lost it all tomorrow, it
wouldn't be me that's hurt, it would be my babies. It would be more
about people's opinion of me that would concern me.
That should be the measure of success for everyone.
It's not money, it's not fame, it's not celebrity; my index of success
is happiness.
My mother and my father were teachers. My
grandmother and my grandfather were teachers. This is something I really
know about. Even when I was a kid, it was a profession my father
couldn't stay in, because he couldn't make enough money.
I think I'm actually quite a materialistic person, I
value what it takes to make a car or build a nice house. Money does
change things, but how it changes people depends on how they react to
it.

Business? It's quite simple; it's other people's money.
Money may not buy happiness, but it can damn well give it!

Congress we have no right to appropriate a dollar of the public money.
Nobody wants to read about the honest lawyer down
the street who does real estate loans and wills. If you want to sell
books, you have to write about the interesting lawyers - the guys who
steal all the money and take off. That's the fun stuff.
Billionaires like the Koch brothers, casino mogul
Sheldon Adelson, and political puppet master Karl Rove should not be
able to buy our elections. Secret money should not be able to drown out
the voices of the American people and sell our Democracy to the highest
bidder.
I am happy to make money. I want to make more money, make more music, eat Big Macs and drink Budweisers.
The people who are making money are the ones who are writing and singing their own songs.
Those whose life is long still strive for gain, and for all mortals all things take second place to money.
But only 'rich' people by definition have the
'extra' money to buy things and invest to create economic growth. Do we
really want to tax that 'extra' money away - and give it to the
government to spend? Does that make any economic sense outside of
politics and our emotional desire to make everyone suffer equally
through these tough times?
I'm not really a betting person. I work too hard for my money to give it away.
Making money from money is like aerobatics.
If you put all your strength and faith and vigor into a job and try to do the best you can, the money will come.
For me, wearing a tie is a pleasure, a recherche one
but a pleasure nonetheless. You could say that I'm avoiding tie
avoidance. My own gorgeous collection runs into hundreds and I buy them
the way I buy books - I simply can't pass a shop. I have loved them
since I could spend my own money on them.
Often people attempt to live their lives backwards;
they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what

I think when money starts to corrupt journalism, it
undermines the journalism, and it undermines the credibility of the
product, and you end up not succeeding.
My mom did not have money. She was a single mom, on
and off in periods between marriages. My husband, however, grew up on a
wonderful farm in Tuscany, in Florence, and his family was so
entertaining in terms of growing their own food and using the fruit of
their land. We have very, very different experiences.
To me, wealth is the peace of mind you have, your
family, your friends, your colleagues. Everything else is just money,

mean is I have moments of complete immaturity. When I come home, I don't
want to be an actor. I just want to be a kid. I barely even know what
money is.
When Silence of the Lambs did well commercially it
was more than anything. My partner Ed Saxon and I were just so relieved

When you have no money in New York, you're living in

there are some cameras on the market that give film a run for its money.
It's all about flexibility in capturing images, and digital or film, it
doesn't matter to me.

money that goes untapped. If every athlete gave 5% of what they earned,
there wouldn't be any budget problems.
I think we've learned that the S.B.A. plays a
critical role in providing access and opportunity when the market is not
providing that access. We help banks get that money out into the hands
of important and viable businesses, particularly those owned by
minorities, women, immigrants and veterans.
We are the nation the most powerful, the most armed
and we are supplying arms and money to the rest of the world where we

go, 'You know, that's part of history.'

get it from these folks.
I used to have a drug problem, now I make enough money.
But with lots of good ideas, implementation is the

as long as I am able.

Feckless as it was for Bush to ask Americans to go
shopping after 9/11, we all too enthusiastically followed his lead,

feasting on easy money, don't-pay-as-you-go consumerism and a
metastasizing celebrity culture.

choices we want, that we not judge too much on that.

I've always been a size 14 to 16, I don't care about clothes, I'd rather
spend my money on cigarettes and booze.
Everything that I've gone through since the end of
2010, from me finding out about my financial adviser stealing,
mismanaging my money - that affected everything, from child support,
mortgages, to me having to sell my properties, me being in and out of
court trying to modify my child support. It's a lot to deal with at one
time.
There is an old saying that money can't buy happiness. If it could, I would buy myself four hits every game.
I have come close to producing films. But generally
by the time they hit the screen, there's about 50 people with producer
credits, so what's the point. I usually find scripts I like with no
money attached and take them to producers that I know and try to raise
finance.
You know how much money the oil companies have? If
you need some gas, just go fill your tank off and drive off - they're
not going to miss it.
At the heart of banking is a suicidal strategy.
Banks take money from the public or each other on call, skim it for
their own reward and then lock the rest up in volatile, insecure and
illiquid loans that at times they cannot redeem without public aid.
I don't care about the money. I'm just interested in
the perks. I'll do a series if I am picked up by a limo, work only
until 4, and the show is shot in Hawaii.
I've learned it's not about being famous and big
money. L.A. can be a fun place, but when it comes down to it - and this
might sound hokey - there's no place like home.
I have enough money to last me the rest of my life unless I buy something.
In January we start saving money, getting out of
credit card debt, funding our retirement accounts, and we're doing
wonderful. Then, every single year like clockwork, starting in November,
all of you fall into this trap that says, 'I have to buy this gift... I
can't show up at this party and not have something for everybody.'
I do not understand how it is that financial
institutions could think that they could take taxpayer money and then
turn around and act like it's business as usual. I don't understand how
they can't see that the world has changed in a fundamental way, that it
is not business as usual when you take taxpayer dollars.
When you work on big commercial movies, of course
there's more money involved and you can still do some good work. But
with an independent, you get films that are really close to the writers'
and directors' heart. Somehow it becomes a little deeper. A little more
meat and not as much flash.
It takes a minute for me to let my guard down, but
once I do and I get to know someone, I'm very open, very trusting. Some
might say too trusting, because considering the amount of money that can
be made from selling gossip, I could be very easily taken advantage of.
What we really want to do is what we are really
meant to do. When we do what we are meant to do, money comes to us,
doors open for us, we feel useful, and the work we do feels like play to
us.
In any area of human endeavour, there is going to
be mediocrity. You're going to find people who get money that they
shouldn't get.
Congress passes bills that appropriate money.
Congress says, 'We're building this bridge or funding that defense
project, and they cost this much.'
I'm very focused on the world and my career and my
Porsche turbo and making money and Stevie B. Inc. I'm just living
according to the standards of the world.
Assets put money in your pocket, whether you work or not, and liabilities take money from your pocket.
I think I was one of those kids that I might not
fight you if you stepped on my shoes or stole my lunch money or that
kind of stuff. But if you picked on a girl or something like that, that
would cause me to rear up a little bit.
The bottom-line message of history is that if
you're doubling and tripling your money in record time, you're also more
likely to lose it all.
My first job was in sixth grade, sweeping the clay
tennis courts at the yacht club near my house, which I was not a member
of. Always had to pay my own rent. But I don't really have any concept
of how money works. I don't know how much things cost. Like a BMW. Or a
quart of milk. It's embarrassing.
Who needs a handbag? I put my money in my bra.
Money never seems to be interested in
strengthening regulatory agencies, for example, but always in subverting
them, in making them miss the danger signs in coal mines and in
derivatives trading and in deep-sea oil wells.
Personally, I believe that government, rather than
money, tends to be the primary factor limiting the development of new
technologies.
Taking Big Bird away from our five year olds,
lunch money away from our ten year olds, job training programs away from
our fifteen year olds, and college loans away from our twenty year olds
is a disgrace.
I know you don't always need to spend a ton of money to be stylish.
There was a long time where I was an 'artist' in quotes, who had no money. But I guess back then I also never had a girlfriend.
I'm always impressed by how compassionate the
gaming community can be when they have a cause and appreciate that they
leverage our platform to raise money for those in need. We continue to
encourage giving in support of important causes, including Extra Life
2012.
Mafia guys are all just insecure people who want
their money. They're like little seven-year old kids when they don't get
their way. I knew guys like that growing up in New Jersey.
Research is four things: brains with which to think, eyes with which to see, machines with which to measure and, fourth, money.
There is a basic lesson on financial crises that
governments tend to wait too long, underestimate the risks, want to do
too little. And it ultimately gets away from them, and they end up
spending more money, causing much more damage to the economy.
My choice was to ruin my son's life by giving him money or giving 90-plus percent to charity. Not much of a choice.
I think that lawyers are terrible at admitting
that they're wrong. And not just admitting it; also realizing it. Most
lawyers are very successful, and they think that because they're making
money and people think well of them, they must be doing everything
right.
When I was a teen, I was never really into the
captain of the football team or the student body president. The guys I
liked were quirky and different: They listened to music I'd never heard
of, never had lunch or gas money, and could always make you laugh.
I'm not looking for career attention, for more success, more money. I'm just singing songs I chose because I love them.
When you get money you're always a target because there's always somebody who needs money out there.
I spent money, and I kept thinking, 'I get one
more movie and I'll wipe these bills out,' but that movie never came.
That black pride, I said, 'Man, I'm going to hang in there, I'm going to
pay these bills.' So you owe a million dollars. 'I can pay that.' OK,
fines, fees, now you owe two and a half million. 'But I didn't do
nothin'!'
As they say around the Texas Legislature, if you
can't drink their whiskey, screw their women, take their money, and vote
against 'em anyway, you don't belong in office.
You can have a lot of unhappiness by not having money, but the reverse is no guarantee of happiness.
Throwing money at something doesn't really create - forgive me that onerous word - art.
In hip-hop, what you have is you have a lot of
formulaic-type bands or rappers that come up. They saw something on the
radio, and they want to mimic that formula. And that's just boring. I
don't wanna record something just to make money; I want to record
something to enjoy it and have fun because I'm a music lover.
George Bush is by American standards rabidly Upper
Class - Eastern, Socially Attractive, WASP, 19th-century money, several
generations of Andover and Yale (and, while we're at it, his father,
George H. W. 'Poppy' Bush, was a former president and his grandfather
was the Nazis' U.S. banker in the 1930s).
Corporations are a fictional entity that are designed to make money, and they're neither people nor patriots.
I haven't met one parent or one teacher in
Missouri who thinks we should balance the budget by taking money from
kids' classrooms.
The only football players in my time were fellows
who really loved to play football. They were not in it for the money.
There wasn't much money there. They would have played football for
nothing.
Low interest rates are a big opportunity for
investment. But the issue is that this money should go to the real
economy, not the financial economy.
My accountant worships me because I'm so cautious with my money.
I want to give away the money. I don't want to die with it. I want the money to be used well.
The U.S. is not constructing a palatial embassy,
by far the largest in the world and virtually a separate city within
Baghdad, and pouring money into military bases, with the intention of
leaving Iraq to Iraqis.
At least once a year, I meet with a group called
the Giving Pledge. It's a group of billionaires - including me, Warren
Buffett, Bill Gates, and Ted Turner - who have pledged to give away most
of their money to charity. We meet for three days to talk about what
we're doing to help make the planet a better place to live.
A corporation's primary goal is to make money.
Government's primary role is to take a big chunk of that money and give
it to others.
A gypsy told me I was going to do great things. I was going to make all kinds of money.
I have a problem with too much money. I can't
reinvest it fast enough, and because I reinvest it, more money comes in.
Yes, the rich do get richer.
You can get your money and you put it in the bank, or you can put it in the youth. You can put it in our future.
Socialism violates at least three of the Ten
Commandments: It turns government into God, it legalizes thievery and it
elevates covetousness. Discussions of income inequality, after all,
aren't about prosperity but about petty spite. Why should you care how
much money I make, so long as you are happy?
No, I never thought about my father's money as my money.
I have a very big phone book and a very long reach
around the world. And I think - I don't think, I know - that 95 percent
of the people who I know who weren't born into success who have become
successful and done things that are different and made a lot of money
and had a lot of excitement in their life are people who never hear the
word 'no.'
It's very simple. If the American people care
about a lot of things including corruption in government, then, in fact,
if you use the power to appoint in order to do political business, to
clear fields, to save your party money and so on, if it's not a crime -
and I believe it is - it certainly is business as usual, politics of
corruption.
God tries you in certain, certain ways. Some
people are rich, and they believe in God. They lose the money, things
get hard, they get weak and quit going to church. Quit serving God like
they did.
Well, the problem of the federal government is
that they print money and go in debt. That's their national policy,
Democrats and Republicans it doesn't matter. And this is where I differ.
In the rest of the world, rich people will give a
donation, and businessmen give to charities. But in Mexico, the
execution capacity of what we call the social sector is missing. I find
it much more effective to set up the actual social organisation and then
fund it with my money.
I wasn't born into land or titles, or new money, or an oil rig.
Capital isn't this pile of money sitting somewhere; it's an accounting construct.
We package everything as a product so we can
derive income from it. Then we can occupy ourselves with higher-order
psychological lifestyle things. This is a very new issue. Money still
matters, but other factors have joined the status game - like how
interesting, how meaningful your work is.
The only point in making money is, you can tell some big shot where to go.
It was an honor and privilege to arrive to this
country 16 years ago with almost no money in my pocket. A lot has
happened since then.
We can all be successful and make money, but when
we die, that ends. But when you are significant is when you help other
people be successful. That lasts many a lifetime.
You get to a point in your career, I think, it's not even about money. You're secure. You want to win Super Bowls.
If we're going to spend more money, it should go to the soldiers, Marines, and airmen to increase their salaries.
The problem for those who assert biblical
authority in support of traditional definitions of marriage is that one
could, with equal validity, assert that the lending of money or certain
kinds of haircuts are forbidden by God, or that slavery and the
subjugation of women are authorized by the Lord.
For a lot of filmmakers, their first goal is to be
successful and make some money. But once people start doing that, the
real goal is then to win an Academy Award. Because when they do, they
know that their obit is going to start out, 'Academy Award winner
so-and-so.'
Money can't buy poverty.
I've never chased money. It's always been about what I can do to motivate and inspire people.
You can't reverse fame. You can lose all the money, but you'll never lose people knowing you.
I didn't need to borrow money from the record
company, because if I had my own publishing company, and I had my own
writers, I'd have enough to get and do whatever I wanted to do.
You shouldn't have to have money to have a luxury fragrance.
One thing that took a while to really adjust to
was, you do it for the the art, for the money, for being together and
having a good time, but you do it for all those people out there who
really care about the show. We are now talking about a show we did over
20 years ago.
The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's
children and grandchildren is not money or other material things
accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.
Like all parents, my husband and I just do the best
we can, hold our breath and hope we've set aside enough money for our
kid's therapy.
